Keeping Your Rims Looking Good

Wheel Rims are the craze among most of the car and truck owners in the country. A rim is a great addition to your vehicle that not only improves the performance of the car but also improves its looks by adding more style to it. One of the most popular choices for rims are the chrome plated rims. Chrome plated rims can be a great addition to your vehicle but can be a tedious job to keep that way. Usually, dust, road dirt and water can create expose it to moisture that will cause corrosion over time.

If you still want to go for chrome rims, it is best to clean them weekly. With the chrome rims, avoid using household cleaning agents like bleach as they are quite harsh. With water and a mild cleaner you can do a good job. But for the best results commercial chrome cleaner is advised. Be sure to follow the directions because many of these cleaners contain acid or lye, which can be dangerous on chrome.

While cleaning the rims, make sure that they have cooled down. Usually, driving causes wheels to get hot, and when cold water is used, it can cause the chrome to pit, which eventually leads to flaking. Once that happens, you will need to have the chrome rim re-plated. If you are not sure about the time you can devote for such maintenance activities, you can very well opt for aluminum rims as they don’t require the attention as the chrome rims do.
